Gandhi elementary school<\/p>\n
Sometime in February 1992, we, the lecturers and our
\ncolleagues at the University of Indonesia, purchased plots of
\nland in Sunter Agung Podomoro. To be precise, the land was
\nlocated on Jalan Bisma near the Pappango village administration
\noffice.<\/p>\n
When we purchased the land, the developers, PT Indoika and PT
\nSunter Agung, informed us of the facilities to be constructed.
\nAmong others, according to the developers, there would be
\nnational and international private schools to be acquired and
\nmanaged by the Ancol Gandhi School Foundation.<\/p>\n
The schools, to be located on a plot of land measuring 48,000
\nsquare meters, would be under the flagship of a new foundation.
\nThis foundation, we read, would be managed by the same medical
\ndoctors managing Ancol Gandhi School. Imbued with great
\nenthusiasm, we decided to buy the plots of land. Unfortunately
\nsix years have elapsed, no school has been built and the land
\nlies neglected.<\/p>\n
We therefore appeal to the school foundation for empathy. We
\nhave been waiting and hoping since 1992 to send our children and
\ngrandchildren to Gandhi kindergarten and elementary school.<\/p>\n
Also, can the Gandhi Foundation explain why in their school
\nthere is only a small number of indigenous Indonesian children
\nwhen the country has a population of some 200 million, of whom
\nonly about 20 percent are Indonesian citizens of foreign descent.
\nIs it true that there are constraints on receiving indigenous
\npupils?<\/p>\n
In addition we would appreciate information from the Ancol
\nGandhi Memorial School Foundation about when a school under its
\nmanagement will be built. Land worth millions of rupiah lies
\nunused while the local people in Jl. Bisma Podomoro area badly
\nneed a school.<\/p>\n
