        "content": "<p>Games gripe<\/p>\n<p>From Sinar<\/p>\n<p>The SEA Games, the great sports event for Southeast Asian<br>\nnations, is approaching. I am proud that my country actively<br>\nnurtures friendly relations with neighboring countries. My pride<br>\nis even greater because Indonesia assumed the task of hosting<br>\nthis prestigious event from Brunei Darussalam, which was unable<br>\nto do it.<\/p>\n<p>But why should the people be burdened with the expenditure for<br>\nthe Games? When the government decided to take over the games'<br>\norganization, the public was not involved. Yet it is the public<br>\nwhich appears to be forced into financing the Games through<br>\nadditional payments, exacted on telephone and electricity bills,<br>\nand airport taxes.<\/p>\n<p>Don't get me wrong. I do not balk at participation in<br>\ngovernment activities. But to force people to contribute is<br>\ncompletely indefensible. This obviously disregards the public's<br>\nright to express an opinion and disdainfully views people as<br>\npassive citizens.<\/p>\n<p>I hope the authorities will abolish this detrimental policy.<\/p>\n<p>Name and address<\/p>\n<p>known to the editor<\/p>",
