Games financial problems 'overcome'<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): National Sports Council chairman Wismoyo
\nArismunandar said Saturday in Jambi that the 19th Southeast Asian
\n(SEA) Games organizing committee does not face any more financial
\nproblems to stage the event or groom athletes.<\/p>\n
Wismoyo, also the organizers chairman, said at the opening
\nceremony of the second Wismoyo Cup international judo
\nchampionship that the financial problems, as reported by the
\nmedia, should not be exaggerated because it could disturb
\nathletes' preparations for the SEA Games.<\/p>\n
\"There's no problem that we can't solve,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Wismoyo urged athletes not to be disturbed by the reports.<\/p>\n
\"The most important thing is to prepare athletes from each
\nsport as much as possible because they can only win if they
\npractice,\" he told Antara.<\/p>\n
The Games consortium, chaired by President Soeharto's son
\nBambang Trihatmodjo, promised to provide Rp 35 billion (US$13.5
\nmillion) by selling stickers.<\/p>\n
But the consortium is concentrating on importing sport
\nequipment which must arrive here by the end of this month.<\/p>\n
The consortium will provide Rp 4 billion more to groom
\nathletes.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Sepak Takraw Association chairman
\nBeddu Amang was optimistic Indonesia will make a clean sweep of
\nfour events at the Games, which will take place from Oct. 11 to
\nOct. 19.<\/p>\n
The association picked 12 male and 12 female athletes.<\/p>\n
Baharuddin Ganiung, Baharuddin B, Hendra Gunafi, Masriyanto,
\nArmon Yones, Arli, Edi Suwarno, Jabiruddin, Rasiwan, Yusri Pakke,
\nMustakhim and Irwansyah will play on the men's side.<\/p>\n
Lada Lisampung, Rice Miarsih, Asnah Syamsibar, Greswati,
\nNatalinda, Yetrin Lagandesa, Hatijah, Siti Hawa Djamalu, Arifah
\nDewi, Sandrina and Getha will play on the women's side.<\/p>\n
Kompas reported that both teams will try out at the first
\nAnniversary Cup sepak takraw championship from Aug. 6 to Aug. 8
\nat the Kuningan Sports Hall, South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The SEA Games participating countries -- Malaysia, Singapore,
\nVietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam -- are
