`GAM suspected behind bombings'<\/p>\n

Following the arrest of two bomb suspects early this week, the
\npolice said it was possible that the Free Aceh Movement (GAM)
\nseparatist group was behind the spate of bombings in Jakarta last
\nyear as well as the recent blasts at Soekarno-Hatta International
\nAirport and behind the United Nations building.<\/p>\n
\"We're trying to find the link between the two suspects we've
\narrested and the bombings this year and last,\" said city police
\nspokesman Sr. Comr. Prasetyo.<\/p>\n
Police arrested on Tuesday evening Lulu bin Kamid and
\nSamsudin, the drivers of a Toyota Kijang and a Suzuki Carry van
\nallegedly used to carry bombs to four destinations: Hotel
\nJayakarta, Eksotis discotheque and Plaza Hayam Wuruk in West
\nJakarta; and the parking lot of Sarinah department store in
\nCentral Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Both are Acehnese and were arrested in Cibinong, Bogor.<\/p>\n
The police bomb squad has surmised that Lulu and Samsudin
\nbelong to a GAM group led by Irsyadi bin Daud, alias Bambang
\nSetiawan, alias Adi, alias Bambang Adi, 37.<\/p>\n
Irsyadi is being tried at the East Jakarta District Court in
\nconnection with a bomb attack on Graha Cijantung mall near the
\nArmy's Special Forces Headquarters in East Jakarta on July 1,
\nlast year.<\/p>\n
Samsudin was the driver of Irsyadi, who police say is the GAM
\ncommander for Greater Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The similarities in the materials and designs used in the
\nbombings led the police to believe that the Free Aceh Movement
\nwas behind the bombings.<\/p>\n
\"So far, they (Lulu and Samsudin) have acknowledged their role
\nin the bombings at Hotel Jayakarta, Eksotis, Plaza Hayam Wuruk
\nand Sarinah. We are delving into whether or not they are aware of
\nthe bombings or bombers at the airport and behind the UN office,\"
\nsaid Prasetyo.<\/p>\n
Earlier, police released a new composite sketch of the
\nsuspected airport bomber. The sketch is of someone who reportedly
\nordered a steel pipe at a workhouse in North Jakarta. It was a
\npipe bomb that exploded at the airport.<\/p>\n
The device exploded in airport Terminal F2 and injured 11
\npeople, including a 16-year-old nanny who lost her left leg below
\nthe knee.<\/p>\n
During police interrogation, Lulu and Samsudin named his
\naccomplices in the Graha Cijantung mall bombings, namely Syahroul
\nand Nadar aka Atom.<\/p>\n
Syahroul was sentenced last year by the East Jakarta District
\nCourt to 15 years in prison and is serving the sentence at
\nCipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta.<\/p>",
