GAM rebel caught in Bandung<\/p>\n
BANDUNG: An Acehnese student, identified as Mohammad bin
\nMohammad Toyib, has been arrested for allegedly serving as an
\nadjutant to the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) finance minister.<\/p>\n
Police nabbed Mohammad, a student of Banda Aceh-based state
\nAr-Raniry Islamic Institute, at the Aceh student dormitory on Jl.
\nCicendo, Bandung, on Monday.<\/p>\n
West Bandung Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Edi Mulyono said on
\nTuesday the arrest followed an intelligence report that put
\nToyib, who is an activist with the Aceh Referendum Information
\nCenter (SIRA), on the police wanted list.<\/p>\n
\"We watched over him for days before the arrest,\" Mulyono
\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Police had earlier arrested Teungku Muhammad Lampoh Awe, who
\nclaimed to be the GAM finance minister.<\/p>\n
Toyib told police investigators he left the Aceh capital,
\nBanda Aceh, on Oct. 20, 2003, for Jakarta to escape the military
\nand police hunt. He moved to Bandung on Feb. 12, 2004, for safety
\nreasons.<\/p>\n
The arrest of Toyib has raised fear among other Acehnese
\nstudents in the dormitory as plainclothes police officers and
\nintelligence officers were often seen hanging around in front of
