GAM kills two police<\/p>\n
BANDA ACEH, Aceh: Armed rebels launched separate attacks in
\nNorth Aceh on Wednesday evening, leaving three people dead and
\nthree others injured, a police officer said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
North Aceh Police chief Supt. Abadan Bangko said two police
\nofficers, Sgt. Sulaiman and Sgt. Zulkarnaen from the Tanah Pasir
\nand Kutamakmur police subprecincts, respectively, were among the
\nfatalities. Abadan said the two sergeants were off duty when they
\nwere gunned down.<\/p>\n
Separatist rebels also killed Usman Sarong, a resident of Pulo
\nBlang Tunong village, Syamtalira Bayu district, Abadan said. The
\nmotive for the murder remains unknown.<\/p>\n
Another police officer, a local legislator and a military
\nsoldier were injured in the attacks.<\/p>\n
In a related development, the deputy chief of the special
\npolice operation Cinta Meunasah, Supt. Yatim Suyatmo, said on
\nThursday the police had questioned four security guards at oil
\nand gas company Exxon Mobil as part of their investigations into
\nlast Tuesday's theft of explosives from the company's warehouse.<\/p>\n
The guards, identified as Rusli Asnawi, Ghazali Hasan, Nurdin
\nM.D. and Zulkifli, were overpowered and tied up by the some 20
\narmed burglars who made off with 16,000 packets of explosives.
