There\nare only a few remaining hotspots that we must extinguish today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bogor Regency, West Java (ANTARA) \u2014 Bogor Regent Rudi Susmanto said\nthe fire at the Galuga final waste disposal site (TPA) in Cibungbulang,\nBogor Regency, has been brought under control, although smoke was still\nvisibly billowing until around 10:00 WIB on Tuesday, some 17 hours after\nthe blaze first broke out.<\/p>\n<p>According to ANTARA\u2019s observations at the scene, greyish-white smoke\nrose from several points on the side of the landfill area bordering\nagricultural land.<\/p>\n<p>Large flames were no longer visible, but plumes of smoke still\nenveloped part of the burnt area. Several sections of the land also\nappeared blackened after being engulfed by fire throughout the\nnight.<\/p>\n<p>The fire was first detected on Monday (7\/9) at around 16:00 WIB. The\nflames then grew larger towards midnight, producing plumes of smoke\nvisible from a distance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy 03:30 WIB the fire had begun to be brought under control. There\nare only a few remaining hotspots that we must extinguish today,\u201d said\nRudi while inspecting the site.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that the fire originated on farmland adjacent to the\nGaluga landfill, not from the active waste piles. The flames then spread\nto an old, disused dumping area.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat) Yudi\nSantosa said access to the fire\u2019s source was an obstacle in the\nextinguishing process, as it is located at the rear of the landfill\narea.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100 combined personnel from the fire service, the regional\ndisaster management agency (BPBD), the TNI, the Bogor Police and other\nelements were deployed. Police also deployed water cannon vehicles,\nwhile a TNI Air Force helicopter was prepared to carry out water\nbombing.<\/p>\n<p>The Bogor Regency Government also suspended services at the Galuga\nlandfill for one day on Tuesday so that access to the site could be\nprioritised for water distribution and the mobilisation of fire-fighting\nvehicles.<\/p>\n<p>There were no fatalities in the incident. The extent of the burnt\narea and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.<\/p>",
