Fifth and sixth grade pupils of SDN 23 Terentang in Radak Baru\nvillage gained new experience with technology through a Microsoft Word\nlesson held as part of BSI Explore 2026 by Universitas Bina Sarana\nInformatika (UBSI) Pontianak Campus on Thursday (13\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
The activity featured Lady Agustin Fitriana as the speaker, who\nprovided a basic introduction to using Microsoft Word. The pupils were\nintroduced to various fundamental functions of the word processing\napplication, from typing and tidying up text to inserting images into\ndocuments.<\/p>\n
During the session, BSI Explore students accompanied the pupils so\nthey could practise the material directly. Siti Hafizah, a member of BSI\nExplore 2026, explained that the activity was designed to give pupils\nbasic experience in using Microsoft Word.<\/p>\n
According to her, some pupils were still unfamiliar with Microsoft\nWord and did not yet understand the basic concept of digital\ndocuments.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the activity, we saw that some pupils were indeed not\nfamiliar with Microsoft Word. Some were even still asking what a\ndocument is and how to create one using a computer,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
She explained that the learning was therefore carried out in stages\nand using simple language so that the material would be easier for\nprimary school pupils to understand.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe started from the most basic things, such as how to type, delete\ntext, tidy up writing, and insert images. After that, the students\naccompanied them directly as they tried it themselves,\u201d she\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Lady, as the speaker, said that introducing Microsoft Word to primary\nschool pupils is an initial step towards building their understanding of\ntechnology use.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe main aim of this activity is not to make them immediately\nproficient in using Microsoft Word, but to provide experience and\nintroduce the fact that computers can be used to create documents and\nassist with various learning activities,\u201d said Lady.<\/p>\n
According to her, practice-based learning is one of the effective\nways to introduce technology to pupils.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe children looked more enthusiastic when they tried it directly.\nThey learned by typing themselves, seeing the results of their writing,\nthen trying to insert images and tidy up the document. From there they\nbegan to understand the function of Microsoft Word,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
The activity also received support from BSI Explore students who\naccompanied the pupils throughout the learning process. The assistance\nwas provided directly to help pupils who still had difficulty using\ncomputers.<\/p>\n
Through this activity, BSI Explore 2026 is not only a community\nservice programme, but also a space for introducing digital skills to\nchildren in Radak Baru village.<\/p>\n
