Gafur: All easy questions<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): What would happen if by some strange chance the
\nnewly elected Vice President B.J. Habibie had refused his
\nnomination yesterday?<\/p>\n
Could the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) find a
\nreplacement within a day?<\/p>\n
Those questions were shot at House Deputy Speaker Abdul Gafur,
\nfrom the Golkar faction, after the five factions interviewed
\nHabibie on the last day of the General Session to formally affirm
\nhis readiness for the nomination.<\/p>\n
"Oh, come on, let's not ask hypothetical questions like that,"
\nsaid Gafur, a former minister of youth affairs and sports,
\ndismissing the reporter for her mischievousness.<\/p>\n
Even though it is reasonable to assume the Assembly would be
\nin dither trying to find another nominee, in the event that
\nHabibie refused the nomination, such a scene is inconceivable in
\nIndonesian politics.<\/p>\n
This was reaffirmed by Gafur when another reporter asked him
\nwhether there were any problems with the interview, during which
\nHabibie was asked four yes-or-no questions.<\/p>\n
"Of course not. What do you think? Those were only four easy
\nquestions," Gafur said while entering his car. (das)<\/p>",
