GABSI eyes runner-up position at Olympics<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian Contract Bridge Association
\n(GABSI) is optimistic its athletes can retain the runner-up
\nposition at the 11th Contract Bridge Olympics in Maastrict, the
\nNetherlands, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 9.<\/p>\n
\"As the silver medalists, we are sure that we can finish
\nsecond at the event this year,\" said player Hengky Lasut on
\nFriday in his hometown Manado, North Sulawesi. Indonesia bowed
\nout to France at the Olympics final.<\/p>\n
Hengky, who partners with Eddy Manoppo, told Antara that the
\nteam's formation this year was a little bit different compared to
\nthe last Olympics at Rodos Island, Greece, in 1996.<\/p>\n
The Indonesian team will comprise of Hengky and Eddy; Denny
\nSacul and Frangky Karwur; and Sance Panelewen and Giovanny
\nWatulingas, who replaces Robert Tobing.<\/p>\n
\"We have a burden to retain the runner up position but with
\ngood preparation and mounting motivation and optimism among the
\nteam members, we can overcome it. Moreover, we have met our
\nrivals in many international tournaments in Europe, America and
\nAsia,\" Eddy said.<\/p>\n
The team is also scheduled to compete in the United States
\nOpen Contract Bridge Championships in Baltimore, Maryland in
