        "content": "<p>Washington (ANTARA) - Finance ministers from the Group of 20 (G20)\nmajor economies on Thursday (16\/4) agreed on the need to provide\nfinancial and humanitarian support to poor countries severely affected\nby the repercussions of the war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>After their meeting in Washington, Japanese Finance Minister Satsuki\nKatayama stated at a press conference that there was a \u201cshared\nunderstanding\u201d among the finance ministers and central bank governors,\nwho also discussed global economic imbalances.<\/p>\n<p>With the United States holding the group\u2019s presidency this year, US\nTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent chaired the meeting on the sidelines of\nthe spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World\nBank.<\/p>\n<p>Bessent spoke about the risks facing vulnerable countries stemming\nfrom the conflict\u2019s impacts, mentioning food vulnerability accompanied\nby potential fertiliser shortages, according to Katayama.<\/p>\n<p>Katayama said that Bessent also explained the United States\u2019 position\non its war with Iran, including calling on other G20 members to\ncooperate in sanctions against Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>The G20 finance ministers did not issue a joint statement following\ntheir discussions.<\/p>",
