The Indonesian Alumni Association for Agricultural Socio-Economics\nand Agribusiness (KASAI) has asserted that the future of Indonesian\nagriculture can no longer rely solely on increasing production. A\ntransformation towards building a collaborative, innovative, and\nsustainable agribusiness ecosystem is necessary for the agricultural\nsector to survive and thrive amidst various global challenges.<\/p>\n
KASAI Chairman Achmad Tjachja Nugraha stated on Saturday (27\/6) that\nthe agricultural development paradigm must shift from merely chasing\nproduction targets to strengthening an ecosystem capable of creating\nadded value and improving farmers\u2019 welfare. \u201cIf Indonesian agriculture\nwants to survive and grow in this disruptive era, we must dare to move\nbeyond the logic of production alone. What is needed is building a\nstrong, adaptive, and sustainable agricultural ecosystem,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Achmad, although national rice production in 2025\nreached approximately 34.69 million tonnes, an increase of 13.29 percent\ncompared to the previous year, various structural problems remain major\nchallenges. These include the dominance of farmers aged over 45, low\ninterest among the younger generation in farming, high rates of\nagricultural land conversion, land quality degradation, the increasing\nimpact of climate change, and the suboptimal agribusiness value chain\nand application of technology in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on studies, research, and discussions conducted by KASAI,\nthere are five main policy directions that need to be priorities for\nnational agricultural development post-2026,\u201d he explained. First,\nstrengthening the agricultural cultivation system through a combination\nof science, modern technology, and local wisdom that has proven capable\nof increasing productivity sustainably. Second, encouraging the\ntransformation of farmers into market-oriented agripreneurs by\nstrengthening business capacity and business literacy, including the use\nof digital technology. Third, building a collaborative ecosystem\ninvolving farmers, government, businesses, academics, research\ninstitutions, communities, and the media as strategic partners in\nagricultural development.<\/p>\n
\u201cFourth, accelerating the downstream processing of agricultural\ncommodities to produce high-value-added processed products with brands\ncapable of competing in export markets. Fifth, expanding the application\nof the Climate Smart Agriculture concept as an efficient,\nenvironmentally friendly, and climate-adaptive agricultural model with\nlow carbon emissions,\u201d he elaborated. Achmad emphasised that this entire\ntransformation agenda must be supported by strengthening community\nsocial capital, such as the spirit of mutual cooperation, helping one\nanother, mutual respect, and a culture of shared learning. \u201cSocial\ncapital is an important foundation in building community resilience to\nface the transformation process and economic pressures.
