A wooden furniture factory in Blunyahan, Pendowoharjo, Sewon, Bantul\ncaught fire in the early morning hours. Losses reached tens of millions\nof rupiah, with the fire suspected to have been caused by flames\nspreading from wood stored near the oven.<\/p>\n
Kristanto Kurniawan, the head of fire and disaster management at\nBantul\u2019s Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), explained that the\nincident began when a factory security guard conducted a routine\ninspection around 02:00 WIB. Finding the factory in safe condition, he\nreturned to his post.<\/p>\n
\u201cWithin minutes, residents called out to the security guard that\nthere was a fire in the wooden oven of the furniture factory,\u201d he told\ndetikJogja on Friday (13 March 2026).<\/p>\n
Upon being alerted to the fire, the security guard and several\nfactory workers attempted to extinguish the flames using available\nequipment. However, the fire continued to spread.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause they couldn\u2019t put it out, one of the workers called the fire\nservice,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Around 03:00 WIB, four fire trucks arrived at the scene. Firefighters\nimmediately began extinguishing the fire.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fire was successfully extinguished at 05:40 WIB,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding casualties, Kristanto stated there were none. According to\nhim, the fire only resulted in material losses.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaterial losses are approximately 30 million rupiah because the oven\nroom measuring 6x4 metres caught fire. Additionally, there were cutting\nboards and chairs from production that burned,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding the cause of the fire, Kristanto said it was because the\nflames in the oven grew larger. On the other hand, near the oven was a\nstorage warehouse for produced goods.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fire was caused by wood in the oven being too close to the\nchimney, so the wood caught fire and the flames grew larger and then\nspread to the warehouse,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kristanto added that this was not the first fire at the furniture\nfactory. According to him, the factory also experienced a fire last\nyear.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat place also burned last year; according to our fire data, it\noccurred in October 2025,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Police Public Information Officer at Bantul Police Resort, First\nSergeant Rita Hidayanto, said the incident began when residents were\nchatting west of the warehouse at 03:30 WIB. During their conversation,\nresidents noticed smoke billowing from the warehouse.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter checking, it turned out the furniture production warehouse was\non fire,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
Repeated Fire Incidents<\/p>\n
Kristanto Kurniawan added that the furniture factory has caught fire\nmultiple times. This is the fifth incident.<\/p>\n
\u201cAccording to our data, that location has burned five times, and as\nfar as I remember, it was in October 2025 and the last time this\nmorning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kristanto also revealed that the fire and disaster management agency\nhas conducted inspections at the facility. It turns out the location is\nused to dry wood in an oven for rapid drying.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat place is specifically for drying wood in an oven, and it only\noperates when there are orders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Additionally, based on available data, the reason for the frequent\nfires at that location is human negligence. Workers sometimes abandon\nthe oven while it is operating.<\/p>\n
