The Makassar City Education Office has implemented a policy of online\nlearning, or Distance Learning (PJJ), for students ranging from early\nchildhood education (PAUD) to primary and junior high school levels, due\nto ongoing queues for fuel (BBM) which are expected to last for a\nweek.<\/p>\n
Educational units for kindergarten, primary, and junior high schools\nacross Makassar City will conduct online learning from 12 to 19\nSeptember 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have instructed the Head of the Education Office to issue a\ncircular so that students from PAUD to junior high school study online,\neffective from tomorrow,\u201d said the Mayor of Makassar, Munafri Arifuddin,\non Saturday (12\/9).<\/p>\n
Appi, his familiar nickname, stated that the online learning policy\nis one of the city government\u2019s responsive measures to reduce public\nmobility amidst the ongoing fuel queues.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis step is part of the Makassar City Government\u2019s response to\nvarious public aspirations and feedback, particularly from parents who\nare also feeling the impact of the fuel queue situation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Appi explained that the implementation of online schooling was taken\nfollowing the long queues of vehicles at several petrol stations, which\nhave impacted the smoothness of public mobility and activities on\nvarious roads in Makassar City.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough this policy, teaching and learning activities will continue\nwithout requiring students to travel from home to school, so that\nvehicle mobility during school hours can be suppressed,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Appi hopes this policy can significantly reduce vehicle mobility,\nespecially during peak hours, without disrupting essential and urgent\npublic services.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe circular will be effective from 12 September 2026 for the next\nfew days, with evaluations adjusted according to the development of the\nqueue conditions and fuel supply,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Appi added that the implementation of distance learning could help\nreduce daily fuel consumption and alleviate vehicle congestion\naccumulating at several petrol station points.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want community activities to continue, but on the other hand, we\ncan temporarily suppress mobility that is not too urgent,\u201d he\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
Explanation from Pertamina<\/p>\n
The Retail Sales Area Manager for Sulselbar of PT Pertamina Patra\nNiaga Regional Sulawesi, Rainier Axel Siegfried Parlindungan Gultom,\nstated that the queues occurring over the last two to three months are\ninfluenced by several factors, including increased demand from the\ntourism and logistics sectors.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe queues occurring in the last 2-3 months are indeed suspected to\nbe caused by many factors. The increase in demand from the tourism and\nlogistics sectors has played a significant role,\u201d said Rainier.<\/p>\n
According to Rainier, the queue conditions do not necessarily\nindicate a shortage of stock. Pertamina ensures that the distribution of\nPertalite and LPG in the Makassar City area continues smoothly.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe always supply stock to petrol stations; it never breaks daily,\nyet the queues continue to occur,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In fact, in recent days, vehicle queues were reported to persist\nuntil the early hours of the morning. This condition is considered\nabnormal, as some members of the public are suspected to be queuing due\nto being influenced by circulating information regarding potential fuel\nand LPG price increases.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs recently as last night, at our petrol stations, there were queues\nfrom 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM, which is not normal,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n
To alleviate the queues, Pertamina is preparing several measures.\nSome petrol stations will receive extended operating hours.\nAdditionally, Pertamina is requesting support from law enforcement\nagencies and the Department of Transportation to manage vehicles queuing\noutside the petrol station areas.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need support from law enforcement supervision and the Department\nof Transportation to manage queues that extend outside the petrol\nstations, as we feel this is already disturbing public order,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
As for LPG, Pertamina has increased distribution in several areas\nexperiencing a rise in demand. The increase in supply will continue with\nthe involvement of relevant departments.<\/p>\n
