Frying pan wins design contest<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A frying pan and a bowl for grinding chili took
\nfirst and second place in a recent national industrial design
\ncontest.<\/p>\n
The winners of the \"Eating Utensils\" contest received their
\nprizes yesterday from Tuti Try Sutrisno, wife of Vice President
\nTry Sutrisno.<\/p>\n
Widagdo, the chairman of the Indonesian Design Council and a
\njury member in the contest held by the National Design Center,
\nsaid only 29 of 40 entrants were fit for selection.<\/p>\n
The \"modern\" frying pan by Adhi Nugraha was created to allow
\nsteam-cooking and boiling.<\/p>\n
F Studio Design transformed an ordinary stone bowl into a
\nstylish pestle with a wooden rectangle base.<\/p>\n
The third prize went to Adhi Nugraha and Nedina Sari for their
\nmodified spoon and fork.<\/p>\n
Tuti Try Sutrisno, who also heads the National Handicraft
\nCouncil, said the center is not only expected to come up with new
\ndesigns, but also to make an inventory of traditional works.<\/p>\n
\"We need to think about the patents (of the traditional
\ndesigns), in the face of the future free market,\" said Tuti.<\/p>\n
\"The contest was meant to stimulate designers to find
\nsomething new in tools which we have used for thousands of years
\nin daily activities,\" Widagdo said.<\/p>\n
The organizers are also holding a two-day seminar on design at
\nthe Wisma Seni Rupa Nasional building of the Ministry of
\nEducation and Culture in Central Jakarta. (anr)<\/p>",
