Televisi Pendidikan Indonesia (TPI), originally established
\nfor educational purposes, seems to be somewhat deviating from its
\ntrue mission now. We used to advise our children to watch TPI
\nfrequently to increase their knowledge, such as through the
\n\"Discovery series.<\/p>\n
In recent months, however, we have often forbidden them from
\nwatching TPI late in the evening because this station currently
\nbroadcasts the no-holds-barred UFC (Ultimate Fighting
\nChampionship) program. This program is now on air earlier than
\npreviously, starting at 10 p.m.<\/p>\n
As parents of three primary school kids, we are anxious about
\nthe likelihood of their accustoming themselves to the fighting,
\ntainted with violence and bloodshed.<\/p>\n
The profit side of this show is understandable as it generates
\nfairly big sums of money through commercials. But it would be
\nwise to broadcast the fighting while most children are asleep,
\ni.e. around midnight.<\/p>\n
Besides, in connection with TPI's plan to stage the same
\nchampionship for the country's martial arts experts, we would
\nlike to appeal that this event be well organized, particularly in
\nterms of refereeing, security and safety. We hope TPI will remain
\nan educational TV station on which all parents can rely for
\nenhancing the knowledge and intelligence of the younger
\ngeneration.<\/p>\n
