Minister of Religious Affairs Nasarundin Umar is encouraging the\ncontinuous strengthening of Musabaqah Tilawatil Qur\u2019an (MTQ) assessment\nstandards in Indonesia to ensure they become a global reference. This\npush was delivered during the inauguration of the Supervisory Board and\nBoard of Judges for the XXXI National MTQ 2026 in Semarang, Central\nJava, on Saturday, 12 September 2026.<\/p>\n
A total of 162 individuals were inaugurated to carry out duties for\nthe XXXI National MTQ 2026, consisting of seven members of the\nSupervisory Board, four leaders of the Board of Judges, and 151 members\nof the Board of Judges.<\/p>\n
According to Nasaruddin, the quality of assessment is a primary\ndeterminant of the MTQ\u2019s success. He noted that even well-organised\nevents can face issues if the judging process is flawed. Consequently,\nhe seeks improvements in the MTQ assessment system.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time, we are entering a new chapter in the world of\nadjudication within the MTQ,\u201d Nasaruddin stated. He also encouraged\ncontinuous training for judges to ensure their quality and capacity\ncontinue to develop, even envisioning the formation of an international\nassociation of MTQ Judges.<\/p>\n
He noted that such an idea is relevant as MTQ is now expanding beyond\nMuslim-majority countries and is being held in several other nations,\nincluding the United States and Russia. Indonesia, he continued, holds a\nstrong position to take on this role, having consistently organised MTQ\nat local and national levels since 1969.<\/p>\n
According to Nasaruddin, there are approximately 25 national-level\nMTQ events held annually in Indonesia by various institutions and\norganisations, including Korpri, correctional institutions, the police,\nthe TNI (National Armed Forces), universities, and State-Owned\nEnterprises (BUMN). The high frequency of these events necessitates\nincreasingly robust assessment standards, especially as Indonesia is\nfrequently requested to send judges for MTQ events abroad.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he encouraged the development and regeneration of judges\nalongside the formulation of assessment standards that can be applied\nmore widely. This idea is expected to serve as a foundation for\nIndonesia to participate in building MTQ assessment standards at the\ninternational level.<\/p>\n
Beyond technical ability, Nasaruddin emphasised the importance of\nintegrity and discipline among judges.
