According to the French\nDefence Procurement Agency (DGA), as reported by Aviation Week and\nvarious defence media, the launch validates the entire deployment chain\nof the MICA NG infrared version within highly demanding operational\nenvironments.<\/p>\n<p>Behind the technical terminology lies a significant achievement.\nFrance has successfully validated the performance of the MICA NG\ninfrared seeker system during supersonic flight, an environment far more\nchallenging than standard flight conditions. This is critical because\nwhen a Rafale flies faster than the speed of sound, both the aircraft\nand the missile experience increased temperatures due to air friction.\nThis reduces the thermal contrast between a target and its surroundings,\nforcing the infrared seeker to work harder to distinguish a target from\nits background.<\/p>\n<p>On 1 June, the DGA conducted the MICA NG firing test from a Rafale at\na DGA missile testing range in the Mediterranean Sea. The test was\nsupported by the missile manufacturer MBDA, Dassault Aviation, and the\nFrench Air and Space Force.
