PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has distributed humanitarian aid worth\nRp2.5 billion to assist communities affected by the 7.7 magnitude\nearthquake that struck the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region on 15 August\n2026.<\/p>\n
PTFI President Director Tony Wenas, accompanied by PTFI employees\noriginally from NTT, personally delivered a portion of the humanitarian\naid, weighing a total of 1.5 tonnes, via aircraft. The aid was\nsymbolically handed over by Tony Wenas to the Governor of NTT, Melki\nLaka Lena, at the Governor\u2019s Office in Kupang, NTT, on Tuesday\n(1\/9).<\/p>\n
Furthermore, the distribution of aid will reach several affected\nareas, including Mbeliling District, Nagekeo Regency, Manggarai Regency,\nand East Manggarai Regency.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe come with sincere intentions to bring aid to our brothers and\nsisters affected by this disaster. NTT is a close neighbour, and our\nkinship drives us to do more. We hope this assistance can lighten the\nburden of our people in NTT, and that this step can trigger a spirit of\nsharing from many other parties,\u201d said Tony Wenas in a statement on\nWednesday (2\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n
He explained that PTFI moved swiftly to respond to the earthquake in\nNTT by deploying emergency response teams, distributing aid, and\norganising employee donations, which the company doubled as a symbol of\nthe collective collaboration of all PTFI personnel for the recovery of\nNTT.<\/p>\n
The PTFI aid, distributed through Human Initiative, includes 700\npackages consisting of Bedding Kits, Personal Hygiene Kits, and Shelter\nKits. Additionally, PTFI is supporting the construction of five\ntemporary shelters (Huntara) and four emergency schools to help meet the\nneeds of affected communities during the emergency response period.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Governor Melki expressed his appreciation for PTFI\u2019s\nsupport in assisting the government in managing the impact of the\nearthquake. \u201cThank you to PT Freeport Indonesia. This aid is not merely\nfigures and goods, but tangible proof of mutual cooperation (gotong\nroyong). We cannot fight alone; the support of the business world,\ninstitutions, and the wider community is greatly needed so that recovery\ncan proceed faster,\u201d said Melki.<\/p>\n
PTFI Employees Raise Donations<\/p>\n
In addition to the corporate contribution, PTFI employees from\nvarious locations, including Tembagapura, Kuala Kencana, Nabire, Gresik,\nand Jakarta, also raised donations through the #PTFIPeduliNTT\nmovement.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis movement shows that caring for others knows no regional\nboundaries. From Mimika, Nabire, Gresik to Jakarta, the PTFI family is\ntogether demonstrating the spirit of mutual cooperation to help the\npeople of NTT,\u201d said Tony Wenas.<\/p>\n
PTFI\u2019s response to the NTT earthquake disaster began during the early\nstages of the disaster. PTFI dispatched an Emergency Preparedness &\nResponse (EP&R) team, along with doctors and paramedics from Timika,\nto join the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Disaster\nAlert team in providing support to affected communities.<\/p>\n
The PTFI team provided medical and emergency response support in\nseveral affected locations in Flores, including Wae Malang, Haju Wangi,\nLiang Dalo, Golo Wontong, and Waso villages.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince mid-August, PTFI has sent six personnel consisting of rescue\nteams and medical staff to NTT. The team arrived on 22 August and served\nuntil 31 August to assist in rescue efforts and provide health services\nto affected communities,\u201d said Tony Wenas.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring their service, the PTFI medical team provided services to\nalmost 500 patients. All activities were coordinated with the Ministry\nof ESDM through the emergency response post,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
In addition to working through Human Initiative, PTFI also\ndistributed humanitarian aid through the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI).\nThis aid consisted of 300 Hygiene Kits, 300 food packages, 300 Shelter\nKits, and 300 Bedding Kits. PTFI also facilitated the delivery of aid\nfrom the Kompas Humanitarian Fund, comprising approximately 70 boxes of\ncanned food and medicines, weighing a total of about 1 tonne.<\/p>\n
PTFI\u2019s support for the earthquake-affected communities in NTT is part\nof the company\u2019s tangible commitment to being present during disasters\nand supporting communities across various regions in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
In January 2026, PTFI distributed humanitarian aid for flood and\nlandslide survivors in Sumatra through Human Initiative and the PMI.\nPreviously, PTFI also deployed emergency response teams to support\nrescue operations for victims of the collapse of the Al-Khoziny Islamic\nBoarding School in Sidoarjo in 2025. PTFI has also provided aid to\ncommunities affected by floods, landslides, and droughts in several\nregions of Indonesia.<\/p>\n
