        "content": "<p>President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) Tony Wenas has\nrevealed that the company has submitted a draft divestment agreement for\na 12 percent stake to the government as part of the extension of its\nSpecial Mining Business Permit (IUPK). Tony explained that the share\ntransfer agreement must be signed before the issuance of the IUPK\nextension, which will take effect in 2041. \u201cWe have submitted the draft\nto the government,\u201d Tony said after a memorandum of understanding\nsigning event in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, 17 June 2026. The\ntransfer of Freeport-McMoRan Inc.\u2019s (FCX) 12 percent ownership in PTFI\nto the government is stipulated in the MoU concerning the IUPK extension\nfor the Grasberg mine in Central Papua. This draft divestment agreement\nis a follow-up to that MoU. \u201cOne of the conditions for issuing the IUPK\nis the signing of the share transfer before 2041. It hasn\u2019t been signed\nyet, it\u2019s still in process,\u201d Tony stated. The MoU on the IUPK extension\nwas signed by Minister of Investment and Downstreaming\/Head of BKPM\nRosan Pereslani, President &amp; CEO of Freeport-McMoRan Kathleen Quirk,\nand President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia Tony Wenas at the U.S.\nChamber of Commerce building in Washington DC on Wednesday (18\/2).\nThrough the MoU, the government, FCX and PTFI agreed on six points: the\nIUPK will be amended to provide an extension of operating rights for the\nlife of the reserves; PTFI will increase its support for communities in\nPapua, including funding for the construction of a new hospital and two\nmedical education facilities; PTFI will increase exploration spending\nand accelerate studies to identify and develop long-term resources and\nexpansion opportunities; and PTFI will continue to prioritise domestic\ndownstream processing through the domestic sale of processed copper,\nprecious metals, sulphuric acid, and other products. Additionally, PTFI\nwill have the flexibility to expand marketing of processed copper to the\nUnited States based on market mechanisms should the US require\nadditional copper supply.<\/p>",
