Freedom to vote<\/p>\n
On March 8 Kompas published an article titled Civil servants
\nbear no political responsibility. The article was in connection
\nwith the President's speech at the official opening of a seminar
\norganized by the Indonesian Administration Scholars Association
\n(PERSADI). In the article, the President clarified that civil
\nservants bear no political responsibility, but only have
\nadministrative responsibilities toward their respective
\nsuperiors.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, this statement should remove all doubt on
\nwhether civil servants, although members of the Civil Servants
\nCorps (KORPRI), should have the freedom to choose what party or
\norganization they give their vote at the coming general election.<\/p>\n
In the past there have been many confusing and contradictory
\nstatements. One statement said that civil servants should vote
\nfor one particular contestant, while the other suggested that
\ncivil servants had complete freedom to choose whatever political
\nparty they liked.<\/p>\n
The President has clarified that civil servants have the
\nfreedom to vote for the political party they like the most.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Post recently reported that the United Development
\nParty and the Indonesian Democratic Party were on the verge of
\nbankruptcy and that only the ruling dominant Golkar party had
\nenough funds for the election campaigns. This gives even greater
\nchance for Golkar to obtain the majority of votes.<\/p>\n
