        "content": "<p>Freedom from fear<\/p>\n<p>Communists, formless organizations, security disturbance<br>\nmovement or whatever, are all referred to as ghosts determined to<br>\ndestroy the unity of this country. The people's fear of these<br>\nghosts and the accusations made by security authorities that some<br>\nintellectuals are involved in \"formless organizations\" and<br>\ncomments from accused intellectuals can be read in The Jakarta<br>\nPost's Oct. 18, 1995 issue.<\/p>\n<p>Our concern is not the publication of the arguments between<br>\nthe opposing sides, but rather the crazy debates that tend to go<br>\non and on. And the so-called ghosts (which are formless) are<br>\nalways blamed for the breakout of such incidents as Nipah, Kedung<br>\nOmbo, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The Indonesian nation is notorious for its liking of and<br>\nbelief in different kinds of \"ghosts.\" And it remains so up till<br>\nnow. This is evident from the films, stories and popular cultural<br>\nactivities which mention the existence of \"ghosts.\" However, I am<br>\nstrongly irritated by the exploitation of these \"ghosts\" either<br>\nfor economic or political purposes.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder what will become of this nation? In spite of the fact<br>\nthat we have celebrated our golden independence anniversary, we<br>\nare still not free of fear of the mentioned \"ghosts.\" When will<br>\nthis fear end?<\/p>\n<p>ARIEF W.
