Java<\/p>\n<p>BANDUNG: Over a million elementary school children in West<br>\nJava will be given free deworming medicine over the next year.<\/p>\n<p>The provincial administration's spokesman, Hasymi Romly, said<br>\nGovernor Nuriana had stressed the importance of deworming, since<br>\nworms could directly affect a child's cognitive development and<br>\nlevel of intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>He said the coordinating team for school health had organized<br>\na program involving PT Jansen Pharmaceutical, Padjadjaran<br>\nUniversity and the University of Indonesia to address worm<br>\nproblems.<\/p>\n<p>The program has already delivered 600,000 tablets to Islamic<br>\nboarding schools in the province.<\/p>\n<p>In commemoration of Education Day on May 2, 5.4 million<br>\ntablets worth Rp 1.7 billion were distributed to all elementary<br>\nschools and special schools for the handicapped.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 1993 World Bank report, most worms enter the<br>\nbody through skin from soil, with all age groups being<br>\nsusceptible.
