Freak storm hits Jakarta<\/p>\n
INDONESIA: A freak storm brought strong winds, heavy rain and
\nhail to several areas of Central and South Jakarta on Saturday
\nafternoon.<\/p>\n
No casualties or damage were reported, although the city's
\nDisaster Mitigation Center received reports of several felled
\ntrees near the Senayan traffic circle in South Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The Jakarta Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said the storm,
\nwhich lasted for about an hour beginning at 4 p.m., was the
\nresult of a particular type of storm cloud -- a cumulo nimbus --
\nthat formed over the city earlier in the day.<\/p>\n
\"This type of storm cloud brings with it rain droplets and
\nhailstones,\" BMG meteorologist Ramlan told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Ramlan said this type of storm was rare and was not a
\nprecursor to further storms in the capital.<\/p>\n
\"There are currently no hurricanes near Indonesia,\" he said.
\n\"The closest one we are monitoring is located far north, near the
\nPhilippines, and has already begun to disperse.\" -- JP<\/p>",
