FPI storms discotheque<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Hundreds of Islam Defenders Front (FPI) members
\nraided a Central Jakarta nightclub early Friday morning and
\nforced the management to close the venue until seven days after
\nthe Idul Fitri holidays.<\/p>\n
FPI Secretary General Ustadz Ja'far Siddiq, who led the raid,
\nsaid the 1001 Nights Discotheque, on Jl. Hayam Wuruk, had
\nviolated city administration regulations banning clubs from
\nopening during certain hours during Ramadhan. He said the club
\nopened from 4 p.m. to 4 a.m.<\/p>\n
A representative for 1001 Nights Discotheque, Jarot, signed a
\nletter stating that he agreed to temporarily stop the business.
\nMangga Besar subdistrict head Dasuki Jaros also gave his
\nsignature.<\/p>\n
\"If they open tomorrow, we will destroy it,\" Ja'far was
\nquoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The vicinity was tightly guarded by hundreds of police
\nofficers who were deployed to monitor the situation and prevent
\nthe standoff from deteriorating further.<\/p>\n
The police, who are supposed to enforce the governor's decree
\non the temporary closure of entertainment spots, did not prevent
\nthe FPI from taking over the police's role.<\/p>\n
Last week, the FPI raided two night spots and destroyed
\nhundreds of bottles of alcohol.--JP<\/p>",
