        "content": "<p>FPI begins jihad committee<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA: The Islam Defenders Front (FPI) began forming a Jihad<br>\ncommittee for the Freedom of Al-Aqsa and Palestine on Monday at<br>\nits headquarter on Jl. Petamburan III, Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is aimed at gathering soldiers and funds to help<br>\nPalestinians in fighting Israeli soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>FPI chief of staff Reza Pahlevi said some 8,500 men had<br>\nvolunteered since the opening of the registration on April 3.<br>\nThey come from various provinces including Lampung, Banten,<br>\nCentral and East Java, South Sulawesi and West Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n<p>FPI will need Rp 64 billion (US$6.4 million) to give them<br>\nmilitary training in Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya and Sudan before<br>\nsending them to the conflict zone.<\/p>\n<p>Several prominent figures in Islamic organizations including<br>\nlegislator Achmad Sumargono and Laskar Jihad chairman Jaffar Umar<br>\nThalib also attended Monday&apos;s event. -- JP<\/p>",
