Several volcanoes in Indonesia erupted on the same day. As of Sunday\n(6\/9) at 09:00 WIB, at least four volcanoes were erupting: Mount Anak\nKrakatau, Mount Ibu, Mount Illi Lewotolok, and Mount Semeru.<\/p>\n
The locations of the four are widespread: Mount Anak Krakatau in the\nSunda Strait, Mount Semeru in East Java, Mount Illi Lewotolok in East\nNusa Tenggara, and Mount Ibu in West Halmahera.<\/p>\n
Mount Anak Krakatau has been erupting since Friday (4\/9) night\nthrough to Sunday (6\/9). Volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau has been\nrecorded spreading from Bengkulu to Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn eruption of Mt. Anak Krakatau occurred on Sunday, 06 September\n2026, at 07:10 WIB. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a\nmaximum amplitude of 50 mm and a duration of 16 seconds,\u201d wrote the\nGeological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources on\nSunday (6\/9).<\/p>\n
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated\nthat, based on information from PVMBG, VAAC Darwin, and analysis of\nHimawari-9 RGB imagery, the distribution of volcanic ash from Mount Anak\nKrakatau is divided into two paths.<\/p>\n
The first path moves towards the northeast-south, covering parts of\nDKI Jakarta, Banten, West Java, and surrounding waters. The second path\nmoves towards the southwest-northwest, covering parts of Banten,\nLampung, Bengkulu, the southern Sunda Strait, and the Indian Ocean west\nof Bengkulu-Lampung-Banten.<\/p>\n
Mount Ibu in North Maluku Province was also reported to have erupted\non Sunday (6\/9).<\/p>\n
The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources\nnoted that the eruption column reached approximately 400 metres above\nthe peak, or about 1,725 metres above sea level. The ash column was\nobserved to be grey with moderate intensity moving towards the\nnortheast.<\/p>\n
\u201cAn eruption of Mt. Ibu occurred on Sunday, 06 September 2026, at\n04:55 WIT. The eruption column height was observed at \u00b1 400 m above the\npeak (\u00b1 1725 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be grey\nwith moderate intensity towards the northeast. The eruption was recorded\non the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 15 mm and a duration of\n35 seconds,\u201d the Geological Agency stated in its release on Sunday\n(6\/9).<\/p>\n
Mount Ili Lewotolok in Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, has\nexperienced a series of eruptions within the last 48 hours.<\/p>\n
The strongest eruption occurred on Sunday (6\/9) at 06:41 WITA, with\nthe ash column reaching 600 metres above the peak, equivalent to 2,023\nmetres above sea level. A thick grey ash column was observed leaning\ntowards the southeast, recorded on the seismograph with a maximum\namplitude of 40 mm and a duration of 82 seconds.<\/p>\n
Mount Semeru in East Java erupted on Sunday (6\/9) at 07:51 WIB. The\nash column height was observed to reach approximately 1,000 metres above\nthe peak. According to reports from the Geological Agency, the eruption\nwas recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 23\nmillimetres and a duration of 102 seconds.<\/p>\n
The Geological Agency has also requested that residents near Mount\nSemeru refrain from any activities in the southeastern sector along\nBesuk Kobokan, up to 13 km from the peak (the centre of the\neruption).<\/p>\n
