        "content": "<p>Four people tried in abortion case<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Four people were indicted at the Central Jakarta<br>\nDistrict Court yesterday for assisting in the running of two<br>\nclinics offering illegal abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Shinta Susanti said the defendants -- Sri Sumiyati,<br>\n34, Suprih alias Kampret, 40, Syamsudin, 29, and Tarinah, 52 --<br>\nallegedly worked for the Amalia and Herlina clinics in Tanah<br>\nTinggi between 1989 and last November.<\/p>\n<p>\"The defendants had helped the owners of the abortion<br>\nclinics,\" Shinta said.<\/p>\n<p>She said Sri Sumiyati was a clerk at the Amalia clinic, while<br>\nSuprih, Syamsudin and Tarinah were employees at the Herlina<br>\nclinic.<\/p>\n<p>The employees assisted the owners of the clinics, identified<br>\nas Kurniasih alias Cicih and Herlina, admit patients and dump<br>\naborted fetuses, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Shinta charged the defendants under Article 80 (1) of the Law<br>\n23 on Health which carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in<br>\njail.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the owners of the clinics, an obstetrician,<br>\nidentified as Budiman, is also being tried at the same court.<br>\nAnother obstetrician, Jaya Lelana, who is a military doctor, is<br>\ndetained at the military police headquarters on the same charges.<\/p>\n<p>Presiding judge Endang Sumarsih adjourned the trial to next<br>\nTuesday to hear the defense lawyers' statements.
