        "content": "<p>Four nabbed for trying to steal ATM money<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police foiled an attempt to steal money from a<br>\nCitibank automatic teller machine (ATM) in Kelapa Gading Mall in<br>\nNorth Jakarta on Saturday, an officer said.<\/p>\n<p>City police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said on Saturday<br>\nthat four men tried to get away with electronic equipment from<br>\nthe ATM booth after failing to break open the ATM.<\/p>\n<p>\"The police managed to arrest the four suspects in their<br>\nrespective houses in Cilincing, North Jakarta, just an hour after<br>\nreceiving a report about the robbery attempt from the security<br>\nguards,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>The four were identified as Jufrin Nurdin alias Fren, 27,<br>\nAmad, 25, Wahidin Rusli, 23, and Samsudin, 23.<\/p>\n<p>Fren was shot in the right leg for trying to attack police<br>\nofficers, Aritonang said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspects, armed with a gun and machetes, arrived<br>\nat the Citibank branch at 3 a.m. in a Kijang van and forcibly<br>\nopened the door of the ATM booth after overpowering a security<br>\nguard named Ahmad Buruh.<\/p>\n<p>Aritonang explained that the suspects initially planned to<br>\nremove the ATM but were unable to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects then entered the bank's branch office and stole<br>\ncircuit television equipment and recording equipment, he said.<\/p>\n<p>In an unrelated incident, police also managed to arrest on<br>\nSaturday one of five suspects believed to have robbed and injured<br>\na customer of Bank Rakyat Indonesia of Rp 8 million (US$1,066) in<br>\nCilandak, South Jakarta, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>South Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Satrya Hari Prasetya said<br>\nthe suspect, identified as Fauzi, 26, and his accomplices robbed<br>\nIfa Diasari, 39, a medical doctor, in front of the bank's branch<br>\non Jl. RS Fatmawati.<\/p>\n<p>Slashed<\/p>\n<p>\"One of the suspects slashed the victim's hand and fingers<br>\nwhen she tried to defend her handbag containing the money,\"<br>\nPrasetya said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the robbers were divided into three groups on three<br>\nmotorcycles. \"They planned the robbery.\"<\/p>\n<p>He said one of the suspects was in charge of waiting for and<br>\nwatching the Ifa's movements at the bank.<\/p>\n<p>Satrya said the Ifa, who was holding her child in her arms<br>\nafter withdrawing money, was approached by two of the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The men grabbed the bag and ran away, while the Ifa could not<br>\ndo anything due to the injures she sustained during the<br>\ncommotion.<\/p>\n<p>She only saw two suspects leave the scene on a motorcycle via<br>\nJl. Tarogong, he said.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects' motorcycle hit a Kijang van on Jl. Tarogong, but<br>\ntheir accomplices showed up and helped them get away. They left<br>\nbehind their Yamaha RX King motorcycle.<\/p>\n<p>He said his officers then traced the suspects through the<br>\nmotorcycle registration and managed to arrest Fauzi in his rented<br>\npremises in Klender, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n<p>He said police confiscated Rp 900,000 from the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>In a preliminary interrogation, Fauzi admitted that his gang<br>\nhad robbed bank customers three times in separate places in South<br>\nJakarta, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\"We hope we can catch the other suspects soon,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Separately, police said that a Briton was robbed by two people<br>\nwho made off with Rp 10 million (US$1,428) in Ciputat in South<br>\nJakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Ian Bennet, 40, an employee of heavy machinery<br>\nmanufacturer PT Phillip Harris, was on his way home in a Kijang<br>\nvan with his driver after withdrawing cash from Citibank's branch<br>\noffice on Jl. Raya Rempoa. Bennet had the money in a paper bag<br>\nand was sitting in the back of the car.<\/p>\n<p>Bennet and his driver were forced to stop when their car got a<br>\nflat rear tire.<\/p>\n<p>While the two changed the tire, Bennet heard the right back<br>\ndoor closing.
