        "content": "<p>Four injured in fresh Poso violence<\/p>\n<p>POSO, Central Sulawesi (JP): A band of armed men wearing ninja<br>\noutfits wounded two villagers during their assault on a minivan<br>\nin the village of Pinedapa as tension continued to escalate here<br>\non Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A retaliatory strike followed later in the afternoon,<br>\nseriously wounding two locals.<\/p>\n<p>No deaths were reported in the latest outbreak of violence to<br>\nhit the Central Sulawesi coastal regency.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning ambush, the attackers, wielding knives and<br>\nguns, attacked and shot at two residents of Tokorondo identified<br>\nas Anto, 39, and Sudirman, 35, who were on their way to Poso.<\/p>\n<p>Sudirman sustained minor wounds, while Anto was severely<br>\ninjured and immediately rushed to the Poso hospital for emergency<br>\ntreatment.<\/p>\n<p>Security forces responded promptly to control the violent<br>\nclashes and disperse crowds to prevent the violence from<br>\nspreading. The provincial police claimed to have arrested two men<br>\nin Pinedapa and seized three firearms.<\/p>\n<p>Religious conflicts between the region's Christian and Muslim<br>\ncommunities broke out in the middle of 2000, resulting in the<br>\ndeaths hundreds of people in Poso.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, a Palu prosecution team submitted a counter<br>\nmemorandum on Thursday in response to an appeal filed on behalf<br>\nof three prisoners sentenced to death in connection with the Poso<br>\nbloodshed last year.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Iskandar Sukirman said the brief rejected the<br>\ncontents of the appeal request demanding the release of Fabianus<br>\nTibo, Dominggus da Silva and Marinus Riwu, who were found guilty<br>\nof premeditated mass murder in the Poso riots.<\/p>\n<p>The Central Sulawesi high court had upheld the Palu District<br>\nCourt's death penalty based on conclusive evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The convicts' attorneys, in presenting their appeal, should<br>\nhave questioned the legal basis of the court decision rather than<br>\nthe testimonies of witnesses, Iskandar added.
