Mount Anak Krakatau erupted again on Tuesday, 8 September 2026. By\nmidday, the volcano located in the Sunda Strait had recorded as many as\nfour eruptions.<\/p>\n
The first eruption occurred at 05:08 WIB, followed by activity at\n05:34 WIB and 07:49 WIB. The fourth and most recent eruption was\nrecorded at 11:34 WIB, lasting 17 seconds.<\/p>\n
The activity was recorded by a seismograph with a maximum amplitude\nof 50 mm. Meanwhile, the height of the latest eruption column could not\nbe observed.<\/p>\n
Current Status of Mount Anak Krakatau<\/p>\n
Amid the series of eruptions, Mount Anak Krakatau\u2019s status today\nremains at Level III, or Siaga (Alert).<\/p>\n
The Geological Agency, through information posted on its official X\naccount, confirmed that this status remains in effect. The public is\nalso asked to heed safety recommendations established on the basis of\nvolcanic activity monitoring results.<\/p>\n
\u201cMount Anak Krakatau currently remains at Level III (SIAGA) with a\nrecommended exclusion distance of 3 km from the centre of activity,\nwhich means the eruption potential is still high.\u201d<\/p>\n
Under this status, residents and tourists are asked not to approach\nthe centre of Mount Anak Krakatau\u2019s activity within a 3-kilometre\nradius.<\/p>\n
The Geological Agency explained that the volcano\u2019s activity continues\nto be monitored by the Centre for Volcanology and Geological Hazard\nMitigation (PVMBG). Monitoring is carried out using both visual and\ninstrumental observations.<\/p>\n
\u201cMount Anak Krakatau\u2019s activity is continuously monitored visually\nand instrumentally by PVMBG. An increase in activity is not determined\nby a single eruption or video, but by various monitoring\nparameters.\u201d<\/p>\n
What Does Level III or Siaga Status Mean?<\/p>\n
According to the BPBD website, Level III or Siaga is one of the tiers\nin the volcanic activity warning system. At this level, volcanic\nactivity has shown an increasingly evident increase based on visual and\ninstrumental observations.<\/p>\n
According to the definition of Level III, the condition may take the\nform of an increasingly evident increase in activity, or an eruption\nthat threatens areas surrounding the eruption centre.<\/p>\n
However, Siaga status does not mean that all areas around the volcano\nare in a dangerous condition.
