Four doctors to leave Manokwari<\/p>\n
MANOKWARI, Irian Jaya: Four doctors working in a local
\nhospital are set to leave Manokwari regency because they have not
\nreceived allowances to which they claim they are entitled.<\/p>\n
Head of the local health office Abdul Kadar said on Thursday
\nthat the doctors had resigned after they failed to receive
\nincentives ranging from Rp 3 million to Rp 7 million that were
\ngiven to other doctors serving in remote areas.<\/p>\n
Maria Go, director of the Manokwari General Hospital, said
\nthat the region currently had only three doctors working in the
\ncommunity health centers (Puskesmas) in Bintuni, Wasior and
\nOransbari.<\/p>\n
Apart from that, Manokwari had 25 general practitioners, four
\nspecialists, nine healthcare paramedics and three dentists
\nworking in the hospital.<\/p>\n
The lack of doctors had affected the health services provided
\nin hundreds of Puskesmas across the remote area.<\/p>\n
Realizing that very few doctors are willing to work in remote
\nplaces, Maria has appealed to the government to provide
\nincentives to doctors and paramedics.--Antara<\/p>\n
Two tourists die in Bali, Banyuwangi<\/p>\n
DENPASAR, Bali: Two tourists were found dead in two separate
\nplaces on Wednesday, one in Buleleng, Bali, and the other in
\nBanyuwangi regency, East Java, police said on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Buleleng Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. M. Safei said one of the
\ntourists remained unidentified apart from the fact that he was a
\n91-year-old Dutch citizen, who died while vacationing on the
\nnorth coast of Bali.<\/p>\n
The other dead tourist was named as Yosi Gumi Kihara, 68, from
\nJapan.<\/p>\n
Gus Sumastra, head of the local Jasa Antarbangsa travel
\nagency, said that both bodies were being kept in Singaraja
\nHospital morgue for autopsies and further arrangements.<\/p>\n
Yosi's next of kin, who were also vacationing in Bali,
\ndecided to have his body cremated in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday,
\nand took his ashes back to Japan.<\/p>\n
In 2001, 70 tourists died here of various ailments and as the
\nresult of accidents. Of these, the remains of 50 were flown back
\nto their countries of origin while 20 others were cremated in
\nMumbul, Bali.<\/p>\n
In early February alone, seven tourists died while vacationing
\nin Bali and Banyuwangi of illnesses and due to accidents.--Antara<\/p>",
