        "content": "<p>West Jakarta Sub-District Health Office (Sudinkes Jakbar) reported\nfour crew members who sailed to Somalia were suspected of hantavirus in\nthe area.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018On 13 May 2026, Cengkareng Regional Hospital reported four suspected\nhantavirus cases among crew members who sailed to Somalia,\u2019 said\nSahruna, Head of Sudinkes Jakbar, when contacted in Jakarta on\nTuesday.<\/p>\n<p>They were tested for hantavirus, malaria, and yellow fever. \u2018The\nresults were negative for hantavirus, yellow fever, and malaria,\u2019 he\nadded.<\/p>\n<p>The four crew members were allowed to go home as they no longer\nshowed symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>Sudinkes Jakbar continues to implement preventive and monitoring\nmeasures in line with the Health Ministry\u2019s 2023 guidelines for\nhantavirus prevention and control.<\/p>\n<p>These include strengthening early warning surveillance through\nindicator- and event-based systems (IBS &amp; EBS); enhancing vigilance\nfor hantavirus through a Health Provincial DKI Jakarta Head\u2019s Notice\nNo.\u00a01501\/KS.02.01 dated 12 May 2026 on Hantavirus Vigilance sent to\nSub-District Health Offices, hospitals, and Puskesmas in DKI\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, preparing Rapid Response Teams (TGC) for\nepidemiological investigation and rapid case response; ensuring specimen\nmanagement, laboratory testing, and RT-PCR\/serology referrals;\nstrengthening clinical management and infection prevention and control\n(IPC) at healthcare facilities; conducting epidemiological\ninvestigations and mapping environmental risk factors and rodent\npopulations.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, rodent reservoir control and integrated environmental\nsanitation improvements; strengthening risk communication, public\neducation, and cross-sectoral coordination.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the public to adhere to health protocols, including washing\nhands with soap and practising cough and sneeze etiquette.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Avoid direct contact with infected rodents (rats\/gerbils) through\nbites, excretions and secretions (saliva, urine, faeces), or inhalation\nof aerosols,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Maintain cleanliness in living and working areas, store food and\ndrinks securely, and seal all holes inside and outside homes. Seek\nmedical attention immediately if hantavirus symptoms occur,\u2019 Sahruna\nadded.<\/p>",
