Foundation focuses on photography<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Located in Jacob Obrechtstraat 26, 1,071
\nkilometers from Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the World Press Photo
\nFoundation's activities are financed by proceeds from annual
\nexhibitions, yearbook royalties and sponsorship by Canon, Eastman
\nKodak Company and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.<\/p>\n
The non-profit organization is also subsidized by the city
\nadministration of Amsterdam.<\/p>\n
The foundation calls itself an independent platform for
\ninternational press photography and aims to increase public
\ninterest in press photography and to promote the free flow of
\ninformation worldwide.<\/p>\n
The foundation's philosophy underlies the annual World Press
\nPhoto contest and is displayed in the corresponding yearbook and
\nexhibition. The prizewinning entries are exhibited every year
\naround the world without any form of censorship.<\/p>\n
The nine-member jury from different countries judges the
\nthousands of entries submitted by photojournalists, agencies,
\nnewspapers and magazines from all over the world.<\/p>\n
Since 1983, there has also been a jury of children, which
