Formless groups confusing<\/p>\n

It seems not a single day goes by without the media reporting
\non the widely publicized OTB (Organisasi tanpa bentuk or formless
\norganizations). This organization is said to have been applying a
\nmethod in its operation which is similar to that used by the
\ncommunists.<\/p>\n
In every trouble related to the sensitive issue of race,
\nethnic groups and religion (SARA), it is perceived that OTB is
\nbehind the action. For example, the incident in Jambi concerning
\nthe quake victims, the butchering of Rohadi's family in Bambu
\nApus, Jakarta, students brawls or the spread of illegal circulars
\nare alleged to be related to this formless organization.<\/p>\n
In this case, I agree with Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chairperson
\nof the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI) who said that the
\ngovernment should not always make a statement putting the blame
\non the formless organization. Because that would serve nothing
\nbut confuse the people, and make them suspicious at each other.<\/p>\n
Who and what is OTB? What is it really doing? And how should
\nwe anticipate it?<\/p>\n
To the best of my knowledge, an organization must have a
\ngoverning body, organizational statutes and by-laws, members and
\na certain form. So the government's frequent warnings against the
\noperation of OTB will increasingly be confusing the people.
\nNobody knows who should be supervised and who should be
\nsuspected. Surprisingly enough, a newspaper was rumored to be
\nkeen of following communist ideology. What a confusing situation.<\/p>\n
Should there be a disturbance, it is for the government to
\ninvestigate the matter carefully and properly and inform the
\npublic of the real mastermind and the motivation behind the
\nincident, rather than making the so-called OTB a scapegoat.<\/p>\n
With the country becoming increasingly mature and openness and
\ndemocracy is increasingly relevant, officials should refrain from
\nmaking as-clear-as mud statements which are incomprehensible to
\nthe public, if the government wants to be considered clean.<\/p>\n
