Former Director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, Joe Kent,\nis now at the centre of a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) probe.\nThis legal action has emerged only a few days after Kent resigned from\nhis position as a protest against the war policy in Iran.<\/p>\n
According to reports from BBC and CBS media partners, the FBI\ninvestigation relates to allegations of leaking classified information.\nSources indicate that the probe actually began even before Kent\nofficially stepped down from his role earlier this week. As of this\nreport, the FBI has not provided an official comment on the status of\nthe investigation.<\/p>\n
In his first post-resignation interview with conservative political\ncommentator Tucker Carlson, Kent launched sharp criticism against the\njoint US-Israel military operation that killed Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader,\nAli Khamenei, last month. Kent described the move as a fatal strategic\nmistake for regional stability.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe US-Israel operation that killed Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Ali\nKhamenei is the last thing we should have done,\u201d Kent stated in the\ninterview.<\/p>\n
Kent explained his argument, noting that although he was not a\nfollower of Khamenei, the leader had actually played a role in\nrestraining Iran\u2019s extreme nuclear ambitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe (Khamenei) moderated their nuclear programme; he prevented them\nfrom acquiring nuclear weapons,\u201d he added. When asked by Carlson if Iran\nwas on the brink of possessing nuclear weapons at the time, Kent firmly\nreplied, \u201cNo, they were not on the brink of that.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kent warned that the assassination of Khamenei would instead ignite\nnationalist sentiment that strengthens the regime. He highlighted the\nfigure of Mojtaba Khamenei, son of Ali Khamenei, who has now been\nelected as the new supreme leader.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you remove him, if you aggressively kill him, people will rally\naround the regime, and the next ayatollah you get\u2014and based on all the\ndata we have, I think that\u2019s what\u2019s happening with his son,\u201d Kent\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Although he resigned due to policy disagreements, Kent emphasised\nthat his relationship with President Donald Trump remains good. He\nrevealed that he had spoken directly with Trump before leaving the\nadministration.<\/p>\n

I mean, it wasn\u2019t the best conversation ever, but I told him\nwhy I was leaving and he listened to me,\u201d Kent disclosed.
