The news was confirmed by the family\u2019s spokesperson, Okta\nAlfarisi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInnalilahi wainnailaihi rojiun, my father Alex Noerdin has passed\naway at 13:30 WIB at Siloam Hospital Jakarta,\u201d said Okta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are currently arranging for the return of his body to Palembang\nand arrangements are being made for his burial,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Noerdin was born in Palembang on 9 September 1950. He rose to\nprominence as Regent of Musi Banyuasin from 2001 to 2007.<\/p>\n<p>He became well-known during his tenure as Governor of South Sumatra\nfrom 2008 to 2018. He also contested the 2012 election for Governor of\nJakarta but was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n<p>Following his governorship, Alex served as a member of the House of\nRepresentatives (DPR) from the Golkar faction for the period 2019-2024.\nHe held the position of Chair of Commission VII of the House of\nRepresentatives.<\/p>",
