Former RI soldier indicted<\/p>\n
EAST TIMOR: Prosecutors in East Timor on Tuesday indicted a
\nformer member of the Indonesian army for crimes against humanity
\nover the alleged torture and enforced disappearance of an
\nindependence supporter in 1999.<\/p>\n
Rusdin Maubere, then a first private in the Liquica district
\nIndonesian military command, is charged with the torture and
\nenforced disappearance of Andre de Oliviera in Dato village,
\nLiquica district, a press release from East Timor's serious
\ncrimes unit said.<\/p>\n
The indictment said the Besi Merah Putih (BMP) militia group
\nin Liquica district was under the effective command and control
\nof the civil administration and military in Liquica district.<\/p>\n
It said Oliviera was believed to have fled to the forest to
\nhide following an attack on the Liquica church on April 6, 1999
\nand was returning to Dato on April, 26, 1999, when he was
\narrested by BMP members and soldiers, including Maubere.<\/p>\n
Maubere is said to have ordered the man beaten unconscious.<\/p>\n
Oliviera later died of the beating and Maubere, aided by
\nsoldiers and BMP militia, allegedly buried the body near the
\nAipelu BMP militia post. -- AFP<\/p>",
