The pair were detained on suspicion of\ncriminal negligence that resulted in the deaths of dozens of young\ndemonstrators during the September 2025 tragedy. \u201cA promise is still a\npromise. No one is above the law,\u201d stated incumbent Home Minister Sudan\nGurung in a message on his official Facebook account. \u201cThe former Prime\nMinister and former Home Minister have been arrested.\u201d Gurung, who was\npreviously involved in the mass protests, dismissed notions that this\nstep is a form of political revenge. \u201cThis is just the beginning of\njustice. I hope this country will move in a new direction,\u201d he said. The\narrests are a follow-up to a cabinet meeting on Friday night, which\ndecided to implement the recommendations of the Judicial Commission\u2019s\nreport. The commission, led by Gauri Bahadur Karki, conducted a thorough\ninvestigation into last year\u2019s \u201cGen Z\u201d protests.
