Former minister launches book<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Former minister of defense Mahfud M.D. launched on
\nMonday a 321-page book describing his experiences as a member of
\nthe cabinet in the government of former president Abdurrahman
\n"Gus Dur" Wahid.<\/p>\n
The book, titled One Year with Gus Dur, described the
\nchronology of Mahfud's relationship with Gus Dur, his appointment
\nas defense minister and his relations with other politicians.<\/p>\n
Another fellow minister Sarwono Kusumaatmadja, who was invited
\nto the launching ceremony to comment on Mahfud's book, said Gus
\nDur was an interesting figure.<\/p>\n
The book, according to Sarwono, tried to reveal some of the
\ninteresting sides of Gus Dur, who was removed by members of the
\nPeople's Consultative Assembly (MPR) in July 2001 for
\nincompetence.<\/p>\n
Also present in the book launching were former minister of
\nregional autonomy Ryaas Rasyid, former minister of manpower Al
\nHilal Hamdi and former minister of education Yahya Muhaimin. -- JP<\/p>",
