Former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo Harahap has expressed bafflement\nat the Corruption Eradication Commission\u2019s decision to place former\nMinister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas under house arrest.\nYudi described the decision as highly irregular.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis raises questions\u2014perhaps the KPK lacks confidence in the\nevidence they have gathered so far, both domestically and\ninternationally, to the point of altering the detention status,\u201d Yudi\ntold reporters on Sunday (22\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
Yudi stated that the KPK must be open in explaining to the public the\nreasons for placing Yaqut under house arrest. He reminded that suspects\ncould potentially destroy evidence or influence witness testimonies if\nnot held at the KPK Detention Centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is highly irregular, and the KPK must revoke (Yaqut\u2019s house\narrest status). Even if the reason is illness, the appropriate action\nwould be isolation in a hospital, after which, once recovered, they\nwould be returned to the detention centre,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Yudi, the KPK\u2019s step in granting house arrest to Yaqut\nis feared to impact the legal processes of other cases at the KPK. It is\nnot impossible that other detainees will demand the same treatment as\nYaqut.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will create chaos as it will damage the high-integrity\nanti-corruption system that the KPK has built since its establishment.\nMoreover, transparency to the public only emerged when a detainee\u2019s\nfamily informed the public about Gus Yaqut not being in custody,\u201d Yudi\nexplained.<\/p>\n
As is known, the KPK has switched the detention of former Minister of\nReligious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas to house arrest. Yaqut received\nthis status after seven days in KPK custody.<\/p>\n
The change in Yaqut\u2019s detention status was not first announced by the\nKPK. Yaqut\u2019s absence from the KPK Detention Centre was initially\nrevealed by the wife of former Deputy Minister of Manpower Immanuel\nEbenezer (Noel), Silvia Rinita Harefa, after visiting Noel during Eid on\nSaturday (21\/3).<\/p>\n
Following the widespread testimony from Noel\u2019s wife, the KPK finally\nspoke out to explain Yaqut\u2019s whereabouts. On Saturday night (21\/3), KPK\nSpokesperson Budi Prasetyo stated that Yaqut is currently under house\narrest.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true that investigators have changed the type of detention for\nsuspect YCQ from custody at the KPK Detention Centre to house arrest,\nsince Thursday night (19\/3),\u201d Budi said on Saturday (21\/3).<\/p>\n
The KPK did not provide a clear reason for the change in Yaqut\u2019s\ndetention status. The KPK only stated that house arrest for Yaqut is\ntemporary.<\/p>\n
Budi also stated that the switch of Yaqut to house arrest was not due\nto health factors. Budi said that house arrest for Yaqut was implemented\nafter the KPK received a request from the family. The KPK then granted\nthe request without providing further details on the family\u2019s reasons\nfor submitting the application.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not because of illness.
