The Semarang District Court has sentenced Basuki, a former\nmid-ranking officer of the Central Java Police (Polda Jawa Tengah), Ajun\nKomisaris Besar (AKB), to six years\u2019 imprisonment. The defendant was\nfound guilty of an offence under negligence causing the death of another\nperson in relation to the death of Dwinanda Linchia Levi, a lecturer at\nUniversitas 17 Agustus 1945 Semarang (Untag).<\/p>\n
According to Media Indonesia\u2019s coverage on Wednesday (20 May), the\ncourtroom at Semarang District Court was relatively quiet with visitors,\nwhile security around the venue was tightened to anticipate the\nproceedings of the verdict.<\/p>\n
Basuki, who attended in a white shirt, appeared crestfallen in the\ndock as Chief Judge Ahmad Rasjid read the verdict. The six-year sentence\nwas higher than the prosecutors\u2019 request of five years\u2019\nimprisonment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that he is guilty of an\noffence for his negligence causing the death of another person as\ndefined by the law and punishable under the second alternative count,\u201d\nstated Ahmad Rasjid during the hearing.<\/p>\n
The judge ordered that the detention period already served by the\ndefendant be fully deducted from the imposed sentence, and that the\ndefendant remain in custody.<\/p>\n
In its consideration, the panel highlighted the defendant\u2019s disregard\nfor the victim\u2019s critical condition. It was noted that the defendant had\ntwice taken the victim to hospital previously and was aware that the\nvictim required intensive medical care.<\/p>\n
However, instead of providing further medical assistance when the\nvictim\u2019s condition deteriorated at a boarding house (kost), the\ndefendant let the victim lie there and chose to sleep. The neglect was\ndeemed by the court to be a key factor that worsened Levi\u2019s condition\nand ultimately led to her death.<\/p>\n
\u201cMoreover, as a police officer by profession, rank and function, he\nhad a legal obligation to protect, assist the public, and provide first\naid to those in need,\u201d added the judge.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Public Prosecutor charged the defendant under Article\n428(3) letter b of Law Number 1 Year 2023 on the Penal Code relating to\nthe crime of neglect that caused death.<\/p>\n
The case began when Dwinanda Linchia Levi was found dead, unclothed,\nin room 210 of a boarding house on Jalan Telaga Bodas Raya,\nGajahmungkur, Semarang, on 17 November 2025. An autopsy at RSUP Kariadi\nindicated the cause of death was a ruptured heart due to excessive\nexertion.<\/p>\n
The investigation revealed that at the time of the incident, the\nvictim was with Basuki, who was then head of the Sub-Directorate Dalmas\nDitsamapta of the Central Java Police. It was known that the two had an\nextramarital relationship since 2020.<\/p>\n
Prior to pursuing criminal charges, Basuki had already been subjected\nto Not With Honour Discharge (PTDH), or dismissal through an internal\npolice ethics hearing, for gravely misconduct.
