        "content": "<p>East Tanjung Jabung, Jambi (ANTARA) - Forestry Minister Raja Juli\nAntoni has confirmed the addition of hydrant well facilities and\ninfrastructure to anticipate recurring forest and land fires (karhutla)\nin peatland areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the hydrant wells relatively have a water source available, later\nwe will add hoses and maintenance. The addition of wells, we will\nexecute later,\u201d said Minister Raja Juli in Jambi on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A hydrant well is a water reservoir used specifically for\nfirefighting purposes when a fire occurs at a location.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the existence of hydrant wells built through the\nPeatland and Mangrove Restoration Agency (BRGM) programme is considered\nquite strategic, creating a water supply that can be used when fires\noccur.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPreviously the hydrant wells were the work of the former BRGM for\nwater sources, because it was already predicted that fires would occur,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n<p>This includes strengthening personnel on the ground by deploying 500\npersonnel from the local Forestry Service.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Raja Juli believes that collaborative work by all parties\nand the involvement of communities at the grassroots level in providing\ninformation are key to minimising the danger of forest and land\nfires.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe peatland is four metres deep, moreover this borders a protected\npeat forest covering 17 thousand hectares. So I ask once again for the\ncooperation of the entire community so that this kind of incident does\nnot occur elsewhere,\u201d said the Minister.<\/p>\n<p>In the presence of the Minister, the Chairman of the Fire Care\nCommunity Group of Pandan Sejahtera Village, Geragai District, East\nTanjung Jabung Regency, Sarwo, explained that the fire in the area could\nbe controlled thanks to the existence of 23 active hydrant wells.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the third day of the fire, Mr Minister, the fire has been\ncontrolled thanks to the participation of officers. Fortunately it could\nbe controlled and did not spread to the protected forest, the distance\nis only one kilometre,\u201d said Sarwo.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Regent of East Tanjung Jabung Muslimin Tanja revealed that\nduring the period from January to August the number of hotspots reached\n135 points.
