Forest people resettled<\/p>\n
UJUNGPANDANG, South Sulawesi: A total of 350 families of
\nforest inhabitants have been included in a transmigration program
\nto Bulukatoang area, Maros regency.<\/p>\n
The first group of 150 families of traditional farmers, or 600
\npeople, were seen off on Thursday by Governor ZB Palaguna and
\nother officials. The remaining families will follow soon.<\/p>\n
The Antara news agency reported that the farmers will occupy a
\n1,000 hectare plot of land in two villages and will be provided
\nwith facilities such as housings and seeds.<\/p>\n
The forest inhabitants, who for years had been practicing
\nslash-and-burn farming along the rivers of Tanralili and
\nJeneberang, will enjoy the most advanced transmigration site in
\nthe region.<\/p>\n
Public facilities such as health clinics, mosques and a clean
\nwater installation have been established in the area, it was
\nreported.<\/p>\n
