The Forest and Land Fire Task Force (Satgas Karhutla) of the\nKaliorang District secured heavy machinery found operating within the\nMata Air Batu Putih Camp 3 forest area, located in the Sembulo Mandiri\nPreparation Village, Kaliorang District, East Kutai Regency, on Tuesday\n(15\/09\/2026).<\/p>\n
The discovery drew the attention of the Task Force as heavy machinery\nactivity in forest areas is potentially linked to illegal land clearing.\nThe seizure was conducted as an initial step to prevent the expansion of\nactivities that could trigger environmental damage or forest and land\nfires.<\/p>\n
The field operation involved several parties, including Forest Police\n(Polhut) from KPHP Manubar, Kaliorang territorial officers (Babinsa),\nKaliorang Police, the Kaliorang Fire Care Community (MPA), KARCA, and\nlocal residents.<\/p>\n
The Acting Head of Kaliorang District, Pitriani, stated that the\ndistrict government and relevant agencies first required the landowners\nand workers to sign a written statement promising not to return to land\nclearing or any other activities within the forest area.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur first step is to have them sign a statement that they will not\nreopen land or conduct any further activities in the forest area, both\nfor the landowners and the employees. If they violate this, they will\nface legal proceedings,\u201d said Pitriani.<\/p>\n
She added that the response would not end with the seizure of the\nmachinery. The Kaliorang District Government will also coordinate with\nagencies that hold the authority for forest area management and law\nenforcement in the forestry sector.<\/p>\n
The district authorities will report the findings to KPHP Manubar and\nthe Law Enforcement Unit (Gakkum) of the Provincial Forestry Service for\nfurther action according to their respective jurisdictions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe report will be submitted to KPHP Manubar and the Provincial\nForestry Service\u2019s Law Enforcement Unit so that this finding can be\nfollowed up,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Pitriani expressed hope that this joint effort would strengthen\nforest area supervision in the Kaliorang District and prevent land\nclearing activities that could increase the risk of forest and land\nfires.<\/p>\n
She noted that the involvement of the community alongside authorities\nand relevant agencies is crucial to ensuring forest areas remain\nprotected, especially amidst ongoing efforts to prevent forest and land\nfires.<\/p>\n
