Forest and land fires in West Aceh Regency have spread to six\ndistricts. Despite firefighting efforts by the Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD), the National Disaster Management Agency\n(BNPB), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police\n(Polri), and volunteers alongside local residents, flames continue to\nspread across various areas due to extremely dry conditions. The total\narea of forest, land, and oil palm plantations affected has reached\napproximately 21 hectares. The source of the fire or the initial cause\nof the blaze remains unknown.<\/p>\n
According to Media Indonesia\u2019s investigation on Monday (3\/8), the six\naffected districts are Meureubo, Samatiga, Johan Pahlawan, Woyla Barat,\nBubon, and Arongan Lambalek. Firefighting operations are facing serious\nchallenges from strong winds and limited water sources, although some\nhotspots have been successfully extinguished.<\/p>\n
Teuku Ronald Neh Diansyah, Head of the West Aceh BPBD, stated that\nteams are continuing various efforts to extinguish the remaining active\nhotspots. A team from the BNPB is also assisting with firefighting\noperations, particularly to prevent the flames from spreading to\nresidential areas. Several personnel from the central agency are\nproviding support by operating thermal drones to monitor hotspots from\nthe air, facilitating more effective water bombing operations.<\/p>\n
