        "content": "<p>Dozens of disaster incidents struck the Majalengka Regency area, West\nJava, throughout August 2026. Among the various types of disasters,\nforest and land fires (karhutla) have been the most dominant.<\/p>\n<p>According to data from the Majalengka Regency Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD), there were 33 disaster incidents recorded in\nAugust 2026. Of that total, 23 incidents were forest and land fires. The\nremainder consisted of two extreme weather events, five instances of\ndrought, and five building fires.<\/p>\n<p>A similar pattern was observed in July 2026. Out of 35 recorded\ndisaster incidents, forest and land fires dominated with 30 cases, while\nthe rest included four extreme weather events and one other\ndisaster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cForest and land fires are indeed dominating disaster incidents\nduring this dry season in July and August,\u201d said Wawan Suryawan, First\nExpert Disaster Management Officer in the Emergency and Logistics\nDivision at the Majalengka Regency BPBD, on Thursday (3\/9\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Wawan revealed that high, dry temperatures combined with strong winds\nmean that even small fires can trigger larger forest and land fires.\nConsequently, he has urged the public to play an active role in\npreventing such incidents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, along with the TNI, Polri, Satpol PP, and sub-district\ngovernments, continue to conduct socialisation in villages, given that\npublic awareness is still lacking,\u201d said Wawan.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to forest fires, several villages in Majalengka Regency\nare also experiencing drought and clean water shortages during this dry\nseason. These include Heuleut and Cipaku Villages in Kadipaten District,\nBantrangsana Village in Panyingkeran District, Surawangi Village in\nJatiwangi District, and Girimukti Village in Kasokandel District.<\/p>\n<p>To assist residents in these villages, the BPBD is collaborating with\nother relevant agencies to distribute clean water. These efforts are\nongoing as the dry season continues.<\/p>",
