Foreigners registered for int'l triathlon<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): As many as 17 foreign athletes from the
\nNetherlands, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia will take
\npart at the International Triathlon on Saturday in Senggigi,
\nLombok, West Nusa Tenggara.<\/p>\n
"The championship is held to commemorate the 37th anniversary
\nof the province. It is the second race held here," Sumartono, the
\norganizing committee chairman, said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The committee expects about 150 runners from throughout the
\ncountry to take part in the triathlon. Seventy-three have already
\nregistered.<\/p>\n
The championship will start with two kilometers of swimming at
\nSenggigi beach to be followed with 60 kilometers of cycling from
\nSenggigi to Mataram, the capital city of the province. The
\nparticipants will then run for a stretch of 10 kilometers back to
\nSenggigi. The triathlon combines swimming, cycling and running.<\/p>\n
Antara reported that the first place winner will receive
\nUS$5,000, the second place winner will get US$4,000 and the third
\nplace winner will get US$3,000. They will also receive trophies.<\/p>\n
All other participants reaching the finish line will receive
\nconsolation prizes.<\/p>\n
Sumartono said that the committee has prepared a medical team
\nand a search and rescue team to guarantee the athletes' safety.
