        "content": "<p>Foreign retail chains eye Ujungpandang<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Several foreign and local retail chains plan to<br>\nopen their outlets in Panakukkang Mall, Ujungpandang, South<br>\nSulawesi, a report said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>According to First Pacific Davies Indonesia (FPDI), retailers<br>\nsuch as Wendy's Hamburger, Ku K Ru, Hartz Chicken Buffet, Texas<br>\nChicken, Melawai Optic, Century Health Care, and The 21 Studio<br>\nCineplex had confirmed their presence in the Panakukkang Mall.<\/p>\n<p>Other retail chains such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, New York<br>\nChicken, Gramedia Bookstore, Disc Tara Megastore, Seis Optic,<br>\nFuji Image Plaza, Reebok, Union Bay, Lee Cooper, Lea Jeans and<br>\nGreat River Fashion have stated an interest in opening an outlet<br>\nin the mall.<\/p>\n<p>Panakukkang Mall was 85 percent leased out on its Marketing<br>\nLaunch Night which was held at Panakukkang Mas Country Club,<br>\nUjungpandang last week, according to FPDI, which handles the<br>\nmarketing of the mall.<\/p>\n<p>\"Many Jakarta retailers are looking for partners to expand<br>\ntheir business in Ujungpandang,\" said FPDI director Martin<br>\nSteens.<\/p>\n<p>The mall is located in Panakukkang Mas, an elite residential<br>\narea which is developing rapidly and looks set to become a<br>\nsatellite city with high buying power.<\/p>\n<p>Ujungpandang Vice Mayor Syamsulrizal was quoted by FDPI as<br>\nsaying that he was looking forward to Panakukkang Mall's<br>\ncontribution to Ujungpandang's economic growth which averages 9.2<br>\npercent per year.<\/p>\n<p>The mall, with investment totaling US$50 million, will consist<br>\nof 2.5 levels and provide a parking lot for 1,000 vehicles. It is<br>\nestimated to reach its breakeven point in eight years.<\/p>\n<p>The first construction phase began last May and is scheduled<br>\nfor completion in September 1998. The mall will include an<br>\ninternational food court, an entertainment center, cinema,<br>\nsupermarket, department store, restaurants, and indoor and<br>\noutdoor promotions area.<\/p>\n<p>Maryono, director of developer Asindo Group, said the second<br>\nphase would include another 28,000 square meter shopping center.<\/p>\n<p>The main focus of the Panakukkang Mall will be the Jakarta<br>\nDiamond Supermarket and Department Store.<\/p>\n<p>Mall Panakukkang is part of the Panakukkang business area now<br>\nbeing developed as a business center in Ujungpandang. This new<br>\nbusiness center will comprise commercial buildings, hotel,<br>\nrecreation and entertainment facilities, driving range and an<br>\nexhibition center. (08)<\/p>",
