The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the visits
of the Foreign Minister, the Speaker of the MPR, and representatives of
the central boards of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) and Muhammadiyah to Iran
form part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia
and a friendly nation.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang,
said the visits by the Foreign Minister, the MPR Speaker, and the PBNU
and Muhammadiyah representatives represent the Indonesian nation in
strengthening bilateral ties with a friendly country.

“What I can convey regarding the visits of the Foreign Minister, the
MPR Speaker, and those from PBNU and Muhammadiyah is that they are
representatives of Indonesia to a friendly nation,” Yvonne told
reporters on Thursday (9/7).

According to her, the series of bilateral meetings was directed at
further strengthening Indonesia-Iran relations across various fields.
“These bilateral meetings certainly reinforce our existing bilateral
relations. The MPR Speaker met with the Iranian parliament to further
strengthen ties between the Indonesian and Iranian parliaments. That is
what we can convey,” she said.

Yvonne emphasised that the visit represents the Indonesian nation and
reflects the direction of Indonesia’s foreign policy. “This represents
the Indonesian nation. That is clear and is the focus. It increasingly
reflects the relationship between the two countries and Indonesia’s
independent and active foreign policy principle,” she asserted.

She also expressed hope that the itinerary of the visiting figures
would proceed smoothly. “The PBNU and Muhammadiyah chairmen — let us
support them together and wish them a smooth trip,” Yvonne
concluded.

Member of Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR), Syamsu
Rizal, backed the plan by Foreign Minister Sugiono and MPR Speaker Ahmad
Muzani to attend the funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei.

Foreign Minister Sugiono said the delegation attending the funeral of
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei would be led by himself and the MPR Speaker.

Sugiono explained the technical reasons why Indonesia initially
dispatched only its ambassador to the funeral before eventually sending
a high-level delegation.

Sugiono said the government planned to send a delegation to attend
the funeral ceremony of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali
Khamenei.

Foreign Minister Sugiono and MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani were scheduled
to attend Khamenei’s funeral in Iran on Thursday (9/7) following a
change in access protocol.
",
